One of the favorite places for evening photography at the Bosque del Apache refuge in New Mexico is the so-called 'crane pools' along the main highway to the north of the Visitor Center. Snow geese, and especially sandhill cranes, often roost here, and that's what I was waiting for one evening when these amazing clouds appeared (a few cranes can be seen in some of the pictures). This page shows another interesting crane pool sunset. More pictures of cranes and Bosque are here, here, and here; also, look at the Bosque del Apache page for photos from other visits. |
