Chile and Patagonia
I first visited southern Chile in the 1980s when I was studying penguins in Antarctica. We deployed through Punta Arenas, and sometimes had time to travel north for a brief visit to Puerto Natales and Parque Nacional Torres del Paine. In those days, Torres was little-known and rarely visited, and I was determined to return some day. In 2009 I was invited to work with a Chilean colleague in Valdivia, and took the opportunity to spend more than a week in Torres del Paine and the adjoining regions of Patagonia. There are FAR more tourists there today than in 1988, but it remains a spectacularly beautiful and largely unspoiled place, full of amazing scenery and wildlife. Here are some of my better images from that trip.
