Copihue; Chilean bellflower        Images © Mark A. Chappell

The copihue is Chile's national flower and much beloved by Chileans.   It is a vinelike low-growing forest plant that flowers in late summer and fall, and produces an edible berry.  This one was growing in the forest near Valdivia in southern Chile.
