Congratulations to Sabrina Sedano, who was a UCR undergraduate working in our group from 2015 to 2018, for being admitted to UCSF School of Medicine. She will be joining the PRIME-US cohort (a mission-based program of 12 students focused on working with underserved communities by obtaining a MD/master’s) with a scholarship that will be covering her full cost of attendance.

Please join us to congratulate Dr. Luis Jimenez for getting his Ph.D. this Spring. Luis is the first in his family to attend college. After getting his B.S., he continued to pursue a doctor's degree in the Biomedical Graduation Program of UCR. He has been a big inspiration for his many underrepresented students, including his sisters. He had also been such a great member in the group, handling many lab management stuff. While he is moving on with his exploratory journey with a Ph.D., we will all miss him very much!

We were so proud that, Ms. Sabrina Sedano, our undergraduate research assistant, was the student speaker at the CNAS graduation ceremony. Such an honor is only given to students who not only have high GPAs, but also have done much more beyond the curriculum, like serving the community and doing excellent research. What a marvelous way to graduate, Sabrina! Congratulations!

Ken was awarded the 1st Runner-Up Fellowship in the GradSlam Competition organized by Graduate Division. It is for students to practice articulating their research’s importance in an engaging way that is understandable to others with little or no knowledge on the related scientific fields. The title of Ken's winning presentation is "Cancer Detection: From One Drop of Blood”.

Dr. Jon Ashby (graduatedin 2014) has received the 2015 Ford Foundation Postdoctoral Fellowship. This fellowship highly selective, and only 18 individuals are awarded this year, after a national competition administered by the National Research Council (NRC) on behalf of the Ford Foundation.

Ni Li received her Ph.D. in Chemistry. Several of us attended the commencement and witnessed Wenwan place the doctoral hood for Ni, which signifies her success in completing the graduate program.
