Golden-hooded tanager        Images © Mark A. Chappell

Blue-gray tanagers are one of the commonest -- and among the least colorful -- of the diverse group of tanagers in Central and South America.   I photographed this one in a strip of forest along the Panama Canal near Gamboa.   Other common species in Gamboa included white-shouldered, plain-colored, blue-gray, crimson-backed, palm, and gray-headed tanagers.
