Fasciated antshrikes are one of the large group of 'antbirds' in Central and South America. They are a large species with a formidable hooked bill (below, right) that's used to help catch and subdue large prey (insects and small vertebrates). Both sexes are strongly banded and barred; females (above right) are brownish and males are a striking black and white. These birds were photographed on the 'Pipeline Road' near Gamboa, Panama.
