California's Point Lobos State Reserve and the Big Sur coast to the south include some of the most dramatic stretches of coastline anywhere, famously imaged by Ansel Adams, Edward Weston, and other iconic 20th Century landscape photographers. I think Point Lobos is at its best during storms or in fog (in part becasue that thins out the crowds that swarm the place on sunny days). Besides my attempts at scenics, the photos on this page include some of the local wildlife, including surf scoters, band-tailed pigeon, humpback whales, sea otters, harbor seals, peregrine falcons, Townsend's warblers, sooty shearwaters, and pigeon guillemots. |
