California's Big Sur coast includes some of the most dramatic stretches of coastline anywhere, famously imaged by Ansel Adams, Edward Weston, and other iconic 20th Century landscape photographers. I think the region (including the iconic Point Lobos State Reserve) is at its best during storms or in fog (in part becasue that thins out the crowds that swarm the place on sunny days). Besides the inspiring scenery, the Big Sur coast is one of the release sites for California condors (also here), which are often seen, sometimes very close, along Highway 1. |
