Columbines all have more-or-less the same flower shape, but come in various colors from white to red to blue, as here. Blue columbines (Aquilegia caerulea) are the state flower of Colorado, where I took these pictures. They usually are found in moist habitats and ( are most frequently encountered along streambanks. I used a long (150 mm) macro lens for this image, which served to 'isolate' the blossom against a softly blurred background. Other pages have photos of red and white columbines. |
