The red fox (Vulpes vulpes) is one of the world's most successful species, found naturally across much of the Northern Hemisphere and introduced in other areas (sometimes with catastrophic results, as in Australia). They occur in a variety of color morphs besides the familiar 'red' form, and generally have much thicker and more luxurious fur in winter than in summer. This one is in transition between winter and summer pelage; it was carrying two Richardson's ground squirrels along a road in Yellowstone Park; presumably it was heading towards its den.
