There are lots of brightly-colored South American tanagers, but this one has a color combination that is almost odd. It's a common bird in higher-elevation Peruvian cloud forests on the east slope of the Andes (along with relatives such as the hooded mountain-tanager and the golden-collared tanager). These were photographed near the Wayqecha Research Station, at about 3000 m elevation on the Manu Road in southeastern Peru. |
