Of the numerous brightly-colored tanagers in the tropical Andes, the hooded mountain-tanager is perhaps my favorite. It is fairly common, large, and social, frequently traveling in mixed-species flocks (sometimes with the almost-garish scarlet-bellied mountain-tanager. They're cloud-forest residents and these were photographed at about 3000 m elevation near Wayqecha Research Station, on the Manu Road in southeastern Peru. |
