Golden-naped tanager        Images © Mark A. Chappell

Golden-naped tanagers are lovely small birds of medium altitude cloud forests (in much of their range the 'nape' is yellowish, hence the name).   These were coming to a small fruiting tree in San Pedro, at about 1500 m altitude on the Manu Road in southeastern Peru.   Other species feeding on these fruits included a number of other tanagers (palm, silver-beaked, orange-eared, golden, golden-eared, paradise, spotted, beryl-spangled, bay-headed, blue-necked, saffron-crowned, and common bush-tanager), and in addition to the tanagers, versicolored barbets, blue-naped chlorophonias and orange-bellied euphonias.
