Blue-winged mountain tanagers are spectacular medium-sized birds from mid-altitudes along the Andes. They are not quite as colorful as the notoriously gaudy paradise tanager but are stunning nonetheless. These were photographed a bit up the hill from San Pedro, at about 1600 m altitude on the Manu Road in southeastern Peru, and near Manizales, Colombia. Other species at San Pedro include a number of other tanagers (palm, silver-beaked, orange-eared, golden, golden-eared, golden-naped, saffron-crowned, and common bush-tanager), and in addition to the tanagers, versicolored barbets, blue-naped chlorophonias and orange-bellied euphonias. |
