Tree swallows are common and lovely little glittery-blue and white birds found throughout much of North America. Males are easily identified by their brilliant metallic blue backs and pristine white undersides (their close relatives, violet-green swallows, are iridescent green above, with white rump patches and white around the eyes). These tree swallows (plus one barn swallow) were gathering in flocks at the San Jacinto Wildlife Area, near Riverside, California. Other photos of tree swallows are on this page. |
