Black-faced woodswallow        Images © Mark A. Chappell

Woodswallows are aerial hunters but are not closely related to swallows.   Besides the black-faced woodswallow shown here, there are several other species -- including the white-breasted woodswallow and the dusky woodswallow); none are brightly colored but all are nicely patterned, typically in shades of brown or gray.   I took the photos on a stormy day near a highway passing through wheatfields in southwestern Western Australia.
