Brown-backed chat-tyrants are one of a myriad of small flycatchers in the neotropics. This species is found in open or brushy country at high altitudes; this bird was photographed at about 4,300 m (about 14,500 feet) at Abra Malaga Pass in southern Peru, not far from Cusco. A closely-related species, from slightly-lower altitudes, is the rufous-breasted chat-tyrant. |
