Like the European lapwing, the southern lapwing of lowland Latin America, and to some extent like the North American kildeer, Andean lapwings are large dryland plovers with loud calls and a somewhat prissy attitude towards intruders like humans. They are found in fields and grasslands at high altitudes in the Andes range; these were photographed near Cusco, Peru on a cloudy day. |
