Male cinnamon teal are easily identified by the bright chestnut color over most of the body, along with sky-blue forewings.  Females are difficult to separate from female blue-winged teal.   These were winter visitors to the San Jacinto Wildlife Area and the Salton Sea, both in southern California.   More photos of this species are on this page.
