Ross's geese        Images © Mark A. Chappell

Ross's geese are smaller and trimmer versions of the much more widely distributed and abundant snow goose.   Ross's geese have a smaller, 'warty' bills without the black 'grinning patch' of the snow goose.   As with the snow goose, there is a dark, or 'blue' color morph of the Ross's goose, but it is quite rare.   These birds were photographed in late November as they landed near the 'Farm Deck' at Bosque del Apache Refuge, in the company of numerous snow geese.
Pictures of resting Ross's geese are here.
