Ross's goose        Images © Mark A. Chappell

Ross's geese are smaller and trimmer versions of the much more widely distributed and abundant snow goose.   Ross's geese have a smaller, 'warty' bills without the black 'grinning patch' of the snow goose.   As with the snow goose, there is a dark, or 'blue' color morph of the Ross's goose, but it is quite rare.   These birds were photographed in late November at the Phil Norton observation blind at Bosque del Apache Refuge, in the company of thousands of resting snow geese.
Pictures of flying Ross's geese are here.
