Jumping spider        Images © Mark A. Chappell

Unlike web-weaving spiders, jumping spiders rely on stealth, ambush, and athleticism to catch prey. They have excellent vision and superb leaping abilities (powered by a hydraulic leg-extension mechanism). This one was lurking in a Calochortus blossom in Monterey County, California.
