This bright pink-and-red skimmer was photographed on a small pond near Pantiacolla Lodge in the Peruvian Amazon. It closely resembles the roseate skimmer of the American southwest. This little pond (maybe 100 m long by 5 m wide) also yielded photos of several other dragonflies (an amberwing species, an Oligocladus species, and Erythrodiplax unimaculata ) and quite a few birds (including the American pigmy kingfisher, black hawk-eagle, blue-crowned motmot, and white-browed antbird. |
