Least Bell's vireo        Images © Mark A. Chappell

The 'least' Bell's vireo is a California race under threat from habitat loss and cowbird parasitism.  It prefers dense riparian vegetation, which is increasingly scarce in a highly urbanized state.  However, conservation measures (including cowbird trapping) appear to be having some success and the busy chattering of these little birds is increasingly heard in springtime.  These were at the Living Desert Reserve, near Palm Desert, the Hidden Valley Wildlife Area in Riverside, the nearby San Jacinto Wildlife Area, and Big Morongo Reserve.
More images here; the eastern race of Bell's vireo is shown on this page.
