Bell's vireo        Images © Mark A. Chappell

Bell's vireo is a small, plain, and very noisy bird that lives in scrubby vegetation .  Its loud, chattering call attracts attention, even when the bird remains hidden.   This one was on the Konza Prairie in eastern Kansas.        The threatened California race of 'least' Bell's vireo (even more subtly colored than the eastern forms) is shown on this page.
