The eastern Outback was in severe draught when I was working at Fowlers Gap Station in the early spring of 2009. However, even in a drought, some rain occasionally falls. None of it fell anywhere near the Station, but the morning after a distant storm, Gum Creek was flooded with dirty brown water, which disappeared (except for a few deep puddles) over the next few days. If you look carefully at the image at upper right (taken from the Silver City Highway floodway), you can see a lone galah flying by. I had no idea it was there until I saw the image on my computer. |
