These storm clouds were to the east of the Whites one late-summer evening, and the low sunlight near dusk gave a reddish glow to both clouds, and some of the mountain peaks. In the image at left, you can see virga (rain that evaporates before reaching the ground.) The pictures were taken at an altitude of about 3,800 meters (12,500 feet) near the Barcroft Lab. I used a graduated neutral-density filter to get appropriate exposures on both the sky and the ground. |
