While driving through the isolated Fish Lake Valley in far-western Nevada, I was approaching the hamlet of Dyer at dusk, just as the moon rose over the hills to the east. To emphasize the moon, I used a telephoto lens, resting it on the roof of the car for stability. This isn't a computer-generated composite image: it's directly from the scanned slide. This was a lucky combination of light intensities that permitted good exposure of both the foreground and the moon. The resemblance of this image to a certain famous Ansel Adams picture struck me only after I got the slides back. |
