Denali National Park is typically visited in summer, but these images were made on a late-season visit in mid-September, just before the park closed for the winter to auto and bus traffic. Denali itself is one of the most dramatic peaks on the planet, rising spectacularly almost 6,200 m above sea level -- but many visitors never see it because it is often hidden behind clouds and mist. We were fortunate to get almost clear views (briefly), but I think the smattering of clouds adds drama. In addition to the mountain itself, Denali Park and the surrounding region have other lovely scenery and -- of course, plenty of wildlife (as here, here, here, here, or here). Other landscapes from Alaska are on this page.
