Yellow monkey flower, or yellow mimulus (Mimulus guttatus) usually grows in wet areas but occasionally is found on dry slopes (as were these). a large, colorful perennial native to southern California and Baja California. Its big tubular flowers are favored by bees and hummingbirds, and often grow in impressive clusters. These were photographed in pine-oak woodlands in the San Jacinto Mountains in Riverside County, California. |
