The sago lilies, star lilies, mariposa lilies, etc. in the genus Calochortus grow widely in the western US and are among my favorite wildflowers I believe this one is the golden-bowl mariposa lily, Calochortus concolor (I'm not completely sure of the species identification). A loose group of about 10 plants were growing on a dry slope in the San Jacinto Mountains of southern California; during the drought year of 2015 their bright color stood out against the dusty slope. It was a rather windy day so the photos were shot at a fairly high shutter speed.
