These Echinocereus cactus flowers were photographed in several places in the deserts of southern California. The brilliant pink-red strawberry hedgehog cactus (E. engelmannii)
above were photographed in Anza-Borrego State Park, east of San Diego, and near Palm Desert in the Coachella valley. The slightly insect-chewed rainbow cactus (E. pectinatus)
below at left was at the Living Desert Reserve, near Palm Desert (better specimens are at right and below), and the flowers at the bottom of the page were in the U.C. Riverside Botanical Gardens.
