Although they are extremely common throughout much of western North America, I have very few good images of wesern fence lizards. They aren't as strikingly colored as some of their relatives such as granite spiny lizards and I suppose that to some degree 'familiarity breeds contempt' is operative here. Small boys frequently catch them and often call them 'bluebellies' because of the bright blue belly coloration on males. I photographed these in near Riverside, California. |
