Diamond pythons are beautiful small constrictors (reaching a maximum of about 2 meters) found in coastal southeastern Australia. This one was crawling around in a large flowering bougenvilla bush in a backyard in Coaldale, a bit north of Wollongong, New South Wales; happily, the homeowner was delighted to have this visitor in her garden. I photographed it late in the afternoon, so these photos are largely illuminated by electronic flash. Pythons have infrared-sensitive pits on the lower jaw and these are quite visible in the lower left image. |
