On summer evenings, the setting sun throws the rounded foothills of the White Mountains, to the east of the Owens Valley into soft relief, as in the scenes taken east of Bishop, California. The two cottonwood trees in the left image, an old dead veteran and a young sapling, caught my eye during a walk to see the sunset to the west. The trees stood out nicely in the soft light just before sunset, and I liked the repeated rolling shapes of the bushes in the foreground and the foothills. In the picture at right, dawn light shows saltbrush flats and the east slope of the Sierra south of Bishop. |
