The two species of catbirds (green and spotted) are relatives of the bowerbirds named for their startlingly catlike yowling calls. Like bowerbirds they feed on fruit and insects; unlike bowerbirds, they do not make bowers, and the sexes are quite similar. They are forest birds, found along much of the east coast of Australia; this one was photographed in the Wollongong Botanic Gardens, New South Wales and in Wollongong. |
