The chimango caracara is one of several caracara species found in South America. Caracaras are a rather adaptable group the the chimango is particularly adept at living with humans, often being nearly as ubiquitous in city parks and neighborhoods as pigeons. As caracaras go, it is a small bird, barely crow-sized. These were photographed in open grasslands in southern Chile, near the village of Cerro Castillo. |
