Boat-tailed grackles, one of three grackle species in North America, are named for their huge tails (although these are not as big as on some great-tailed grackles). Like all grackles, they are highly social, noisy, irridescent birds; males are glossy blue-black males and the smaller females are brownish. Boat-tailed grackles are found in southeastern North America; these were photographed along the causeway to Sanibel Island in south Florida. |
