Although they do not sport a lot of flamboyant colors (other than a small yellow spot in front of the eye), black-throated gray warblers are one of my favorites among the wood warblers. Both sexes have an elegant set of black, white, and gray markings. The males were in Riverside, California, the nearby San Jacinto Wildlife Area, and the San Jacinto Mountains, and the females were in southwestern Colorado and in the White Mountains of eastern California. Pictures of spring males are here. |
