These buntings were abundant in many places when we visited Poland in 2007, 2008, and 2009.   The male above was photographed singing (and stretching) on a spring day from a small bush in marshland in Biebrza National Park in northeast Poland.   The one below (probably a female) paused briefly on an overcast day in the small town of Bialowieza.   I had to shoot the fairly dimly-lit bird against the bright sky and did not have high hopes for this image, but I think the effect is interesting (almost like a formal portrait).
