These California thrashers were unusually confiding; it's a common bird in California chaparral -- where its lovely varied song is frequently heard -- but usually stays well under cover. The birds above (and below at left) were singing loudly at the Motte Rimrock Reserve near the University of California, Riverside.; the close-up of a very friendly individual was taken at Big Morongo Reserve in the California desert. |
