Red-throated pipits are a Eurasian species, but every so often one of them strays to the west coast of the US. Usually these stragglers do not show the rusty-red throat of an adult male, and this bird is no exception (if you look closely, a tiny bit of rust-color is evident on a neck feather or two). It was visiting the San Joaquin Marsh in Orange County, California. |
