Western bluebirds are quite similar to eastern bluebirds, with blue-and-rust males and more subtly colored females (upper center).   These were mostly wintering birds in southern California, in the San Jacinto Wildlife Area near Riverside, at Big Morongo reserve, and in the Coachella Valley near Palm Desert.
