Of the many and varied antwrens (and antbirds, antshrikes, antthrushes, antpittas….) in South America, this one has one of the smallest and least conspicuous. It spends most of its time near the forest floor in thick vegetation and is seldom seen, despite being one of the commonest lowland birds. These are all males; females are brownish but none of them ever permitted a good look, let alone a photo. I took the pictures near Pantiacolla Lodge in the Peruvian Amazon. |
