Oak titmice are plain but very personable little birds found -- as their name implies -- in oak woodlands, chaparral, and forests along the West Coast of the US. Recently they and their close relative the juniper titmouse were split from the plain titmouse, which in turn is quite similar to the eastern tufted titmouse. These oak titmice were photographed in the San Bernardino Mountains of southern California and at Big Morongo Reserve in the California desert. |
