Marsh wrens are active, noisy, and personable inhabitants of dense cattail and reed beds in swamps and marshes across North America. I photographed most of these wrens in dry winter cattails. At right is a singing bird, suspended between two tule stems. Most of these birds are adults defending territories in reed beds, but fledglings are shown in a couple of images. All were at the San Jacinto Wildlife Area near Riverside, California. |
