Dark-bellied cinclodes; Chilean name Churrete        Images © Mark A. Chappell

The several species of cinclodes are small passerines in the South American 'funerid' group.   All have relatively similar markings that usually include eye lines and wing bars; this is the dark-bellied cinclodes.   I took the photos at several places in Parque Nacional Torres del Paine in southern Chile, and near Valdivia to the north.   All of these individuals were foraging near water.   Another page on this site shows the similar bar-winged cinclodes.
