Of the many and varied antbirds (and antwrens, antshrikes, antthrushes, antpittas….) in South America, most are not ecologically associated with army ants. This one is, usually feeding on insects flushed by army ant 'raids'. It was photographed at Pantiacolla Lodge in the Peruvian Amazon; I had a hard time coaxing it out into the open (sort of) and it never moved from this one position for several minutes. |
