Austral thrushes are almost exact copies of North American robins (including the behavior of feeding on worms collected from lawns), except for their somewhat more subdued coloration.   Even the spotted young look like robin chicks.   Adult males have blackish heads; adult females have brownish heads (lower right).   Austral thrushes are abundant and familiar birds in both urban and rural areas; these pictures were taken in Punta Arenas and in Parque Nacional Torres del Paine, both in southern Chile.
