Yellow oriole        Images © Mark A. Chappell

Yellow orioles are larger and less colorful than the New World icterid orioles, but make up for less flamboyant plumage with a lovely evocative song.   Of Australia's two orioles, the yellow oriole is more tropical and the olive-backed oriole is more southerly and has a larger distribution.   These were photographed in a mangrove swamp on Cape Tribulation in far-north Queensland, and in the Darwin Botanical Garden in the Northern Territory.
